This images that I've chosen to print, i feel are my strongest images and are the ones that show that I've fully explored this community and how diverse, resourceful and friendly the place is.
Here is a contact sheet of the images I'm printing:
The portraits of Colin digging I've included because it shows the actual activity that would happen at the allotment and i thought this was a stronger image that the other because he's getting stuck right into it and the framing is better in my opinion.
The image of the bee broach in the tree because of the individuality of the plot and i thought it almost had a comical effect because of the size of it. But then when you look closely theres a wasp just under it and once printed i feel like it will look really good.
The still life image of the board with the planning on it, because its showing the dedication to the allotment and how much actually goes into planning it and setting it all out correctly, even if it just for competitions.
The image of Ian and his shed with the freedom house sign, i knew i wanted to print because its showing how they make it like their home, and its symbolising to the freedom of being outside, and growing your own produce. I loved this portrait and its now stuck up just under the freedom house sign on his shed too.
The establishing shot of the shed i wanted to print because its showing how some people set out their allotments and it gives you a strong idea of what its like and how it would look once its grown too.
The image of Spencer and Terry chatting I've used because i love the framing of it, how they're talking just through the centre of the archway and it splits the image up, but then showing the greenery of the allotments. I also like the fact that the plot holders are all so friendly with each other and were laughing and chatting about their plots and just catching up. I think this really shows the point of community because they all get on so well, and having their plots brings them all together.
The image of the inside of Terry's greenhouse I've chosen because its shows what the shed are like on the inside, how cluttered and how resourceful they are, and all the different stuff they use to tend to the allotments. I felt this image was so strong that it tells its own story on its own without any other images or writing to it.
I knew that i defiantly wanted to include the image of the Scottish brother with his hogweed because its such an amazing portrait, but its also showing how different each plot holder is. Hogweed is an evil thing as well because it grows and then just spreads and spreads and its something that the plot holders are having to fight against on daily basis, so i thought including this image also shows the triumph of digging some of it up.
The image of the disabled plot because it breaks the stereotype of allotments and its something that I've never seen before and i thought it was such a nice thing to see, that even in a wheelchair he could still have his own plot and was able to tend to it all.
